Orion Music and more!

Overview

Orion was a pretty unique experience; it would be a mistake to call it just a concert. Throughout the day there were stages set up for comedy acts, performances and an impressive display of motorcycles and hot rods. One of the coolest things about this weekend? Metallica. They hand selected every band and performer that would contribute to this festival, they also walked around throughout the day announcing each act as they transpired.

This is my third time seeing Avenged Sevenfold and I would have to say this is the best performance I have seen from them yet.  Something I haven’t seen

too much from them in their first couple of shows? They were having fun again. Since the passing of their Drummer Rev, the group dynamic hasn’t quite been the same.  I was glad to see the guys interacting with each other more, making faces and passes at one another.  These interactions really helped the crowd feel a little more connected, and made for a great set. I have never been a huge fan of Avenged, but they are by far one of my favorite bands to see live, especially now that they are starting to get back to normal.

Unholy Confessions

Metallica is probably one of the most recognized names in music, and coming out to a music festival that was Metallica’s creation, was unreal.

They headlined both nights of this two-day festival, the first night playing their “Ride the Lightning” album, cover to cover, (with a couple classics thrown in the mix) and the second night playing “The Black Album” in its entirety.  Unfortunately I was only able to make it to Saturday’s show, but it was probably one of the best shows I have seen to date.

They started their set with a couple favorites, Hit the Lights, Master of Puppets, Fuel, For Whom the Bell Tolls, and The Shortest Straw before moving into the Black Album. James Hetfield has such a strong distinguishable voice, and a powerful presence, he absolutely commanded your attention, whether he was at the top of the stage, on the riser or in the crowd on the “snake pit” It was hard to take your eyes off him. I had never seen a festival quite like this one between the diversity of people and the amount of people, and the energy is unmatched.

This was such a fantastic event and I am absolutely thrilled to have been a part of it. See you next year! same place same time!
